What is Kalavantin Durg?

Kalavantin Durg is also known as Prabalgad Fort or Kalavantin Fort. It is located in the state of Maharashtra, between locations known as Panvel and Matheran. In 1657 it was Shivaji who recovered Kalavantin Durg from the Mughals to settle throughout the area known as Kalyan-Bhivandi. They had enormous resistance from the Sardar Mughal Kesar Singh, at that time the protector of the fort, who died in the siege after an honorable immolation called Jauhar.
